Susan Bachrach

Speaker to discuss Nazi eugenics

Susan Bachrach, whose work as special exhibitions curator for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has produced intriguing perspectives on the Holocaust and Nazism, will be the featured speaker at the Nov. 15 Connell School of Nursing colloquium titled "A Call to Conscience."

Bachrach will discuss the exhibit "Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race," about the Nazi eugenics program that culminated in the genocide of the Holocaust. Her talk will open a discussion on the ethical use of science and the obligation of the individual to be a voice of conscience in the face of human rights abuses.

The colloquium, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 5-7 p.m. in the Vanderslice Hall Cabaret Room.

In 1994, Bachrach published Tell Them We Remember: The Story of the Holocaust, which drew on the museum's collections of artifacts, photographs, maps, and taped oral and video histories to offer young readers a vivid picture of the Holocaust. Bachrach also authored The Nazi Olympics, in which she profiled organizers and politicians involved with Hitler's hoped-for propaganda spectacle, as well as the athletes.
