Jeffrey LaBroad, a junior from Springfield majoring in communication and elementary education, won third place in the second annual Student Writer of the Year contest sponsored by the Religion Newswriters Association.
The association received 277 entrants for this year's contest, which recognizes outstanding coverage of religion and religious news and events through secular media by a student. A writer for Catholic Communications and The Heights, LaBroad was honored for his coverage of the crisis in the Archdiocese of Boston and the Boston College Church in the 21st Century initiative, among other stories.
LaBroad is currently in the Advanced Studies Program in Bath, England.
