Student performers provide the entertainment at the annual Breaking the Barriers Ball, which follows the campus tree-lighting ceremony.

Tree-lighting, Barriers ball on tap

Two University holiday traditions, the Christmas tree-lighting and the Breaking the Barriers Ball, which normally take place on the first Friday of December will be held a day earlier this year, on Thursday, Dec. 2.

The tree-lighting, an event that includes carols and other seasonal songs, will begin at 5 p.m. on O'Neill Plaza. All members of the University community and their family members are invited to the ceremony.

At 6 p.m. in Gasson Hall, the 18th annual Breaking the Barriers Ball will kick off, featuring performances by various student musical groups. Faculty, administrators, staff and students are invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Undergraduate Government of Boston College.

Proceeds from the ball will benefit the Carol DiMaiti Stuart Foundation, which provides scholarships to residents of Mission Hill who attend college or vocational schools.
