December Full of Holiday Delights at the HeightsThe holiday season at Boston College formally begins this evening with the annual tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. in O'Neill Plaza, followed by the Breaking the Barriers Ball in Gasson 100 at 6 p.m. In the coming weeks, the BC campus will be the setting for a variety of liturgical, musical, dance and social events that celebrate the time of year, among them "A Dancer's Christmas" [see related story]. A sampling: *The University Chorale and Boston College Symphony Orchestra will present their annual Christmas Concert - including a performance of "The Hallelujah Chorus" tomorrow and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m., at Trinity Chapel on Newton Campus. *Another favorite campus ensemble, the Boston College Concert Band, will play "An Irving Berlin Christmas" and the holiday musical staple, "Sleigh Ride," at their concert on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. in Gasson 100. *A Catholic Mass in the Byzantine Rite for the Feast of St. Nicholas will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel, with singing from students of the Boston Ukrainian School. *St. Mary's also will be the setting for the Boston Boy Choir's performance of "A Ceremony of Lessons and Carols" on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. *The Voices of Imani gospel choir gives its Christmas concert on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in St. Ignatius Church. *Master balladeer, entertainer, storyteller and musician Tommy Makem will lend an Irish accent to the holiday season with a Dec. 12 performance at 3 p.m. in Gasson 100, accompanied by musicians and dancers from the BC Irish Studies Program.
