Prayers and readings will be offered in different languages and music from various nations will accompany the Mass, said Campus Ministry Director James Erps, SJ.
The global emphasis was proposed by students involved in planning this year's liturgy, said Fr. Erps. "In music and ritual we'll be recognizing the Church as an international institution," he said.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit to open the school year is a Catholic university tradition dating to the Middle Ages.
University President William P. Leahy, SJ, will preside, with Asst. Prof. James Fleming, SJ (LSOE), preaching the homily. Concelebrating will be members of the Jesuit Community and other priests affiliated with Boston College.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to bring their families to the Mass, which will be followed by a cookout. The Mass will be offered in Conte Forum in the event of rain.
