Boisi Center Hosts Historian O'Toole

The Boisi Center for Religion and American Public Life will present a lecture by Prof. James O'Toole, "Unlikely Allies: Church and Society in Racial Passing," at noon on Oct. 7 at 24 Quincy Road.

O'Toole will examine the positive impact of the Catholic Church on the lives of the interracial Healy family, whose members sought to "pass for white" in 19th-century America. O'Toole chronicled the Healy family story in his recent book Passing for White.
