Residence Hall, Yawkey Center Projects Continuing
Final touches on the St. Ignatius Gate Residence Hall and continuing work on the Yawkey Athletics Center highlight Boston College campus building projects taking place this summer.
"We're making great progress on both projects and we're in position to have a very productive summer," said Vice President for Facilities Management Thomas Devine.
Devine estimated that about two months worth of work remains on St. Ignatius Hall. Construction of the six-story building, which will house approximately 322 students, is expected to be complete on July 23 and ready for student occupancy by mid-August.
The Yawkey Center, with construction of its steel structure near completion, is "about 20 to 30 percent complete," said Devine. Masonry work is underway and crews are installing the building's fireproofing features.
Devine said the entire building will be "completely enclosed and weather-tight" for the start of the football season this fall and expected completion of the four-story center is late February or early March 2005.
Devine also noted one other project that is all but complete: the walkway running between the 21 Campanella Way administration building and O'Neill Library.
"It's really a stunning area," said Devine. "The plants and fencing complement the beauty of both buildings. We've turned a rock ledge in to a park-like area."
