Local Tenants Group Dedicates Community Room to BC
The Commonwealth Tenants Association of Brighton will always have room for Boston College, and not just in its heart.
In celebration of its 13-year partnership with the University, the CTA last month dedicated its community room to BC. An April 14 dedication ceremony brought together some 40 Boston College student, faculty and staff tutors along with CTA officials and members of Allston's West End House to the room, decorated by photographs of BC students working with schoolchildren from the neighborhood.
BC's PULSE program and 4Boston volunteer organization provide the tutors for CTA children. Each year, 25 PULSE students are matched with youngsters for individual home tutoring, and also take them on outings to museums and ball games.
Interviewed by a local newspaper, a long-time tenant of Commonwealth Apartments credited BC's involvement with helping CTA children perform well in school: "We have received love, understanding and education. It's unbelievable."
