Event to Support Children's Hospital

More than 650 students will participate in an 18-hour dance marathon this Friday and Saturday in the Flynn Recreation Complex to raise money for Children's Hospital Boston. The event will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow and end at noon on Saturday. Organizers said they hope to raise more than $75,000 for the hospital.

Dance marathon programs have become popular methods of raising funds to support charitable, human service and other organizations, according to the BC organizers. Last year's BC Dance Marathon event collected more than $28,000 through direct and indirect donations to benefit the Boona Baana Orphanage in Tanzania.

Students must raise a minimum amount of $150 to participate as dancers in the marathon. They can also serve as "moralers" - providing entertainment and other encouragement to the dancers - and general volunteers.
