NY Giants Legend Mara Honored at Wall St. Dinner
New York Giants President and co-CEO Wellington T. Mara was awarded the President's Medal for Excellence at the annual Boston College Wall Street Tribute Dinner, held April 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
The black-tie gala event brings together more than 1,000 distinguished guests in support of the Boston College Presidential Scholars Program for students who demonstrate outstanding leadership and academic achievement. Since its inception, the dinner has raised more than $12 million in scholarship endowment funds.
A highlight of the dinner was the presentation by University President William P. Leahy, SJ, of the President's Medal for Excellence, Boston College's highest honor, to Mara, whose association with the Giants spans seven decades. Mara also has been active in religious and civic organizations, including Life Athletes, a group of professional and Olympic athletes who teach and inspire others to respect life and live lives of virtue.
The tribute dinner is sponsored by the Boston College Wall Street Council, a network of more than 150 prominent members of the New York financial community. University trustees Peter Lynch '65 and Robert Devlin and Wall Street Council co-founder Mario Gabelli served as the event co-chairs. •
