Alpha Sigma Nu Chapter Debuts New Lecture Series

Alpha Sigma Nu Chapter Debuts New Lecture Series

The Boston College Chapter of the national Jesuit honor society Alpha Sigma Nu inaugurates a new lecture series Sept. 24 when Sister Miriam Winter, MMS, of Hartford Seminary, delivers the first Edith Preusse Memorial Lecture at 4:30 p.m. in Gasson 100.

Her address, "Out of the Depths: the Story of Ludmila Javarova," will present an account of a Czech woman who claims to have acted as an ordained Catholic priest in the underground church in communist Czechoslovakia.

The lecture series honors the memory of the late Edith Preusse, a Congregational minister who converted to Catholicism after studies in Rome during the period of the Second Vatican Council. Rev. William McInnes, SJ, a former Jesuit college president who now is faculty advisor to the BC chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, was her friend and spiritual advisor.

Ms. Preusse left a bequest to the BC honor society for "a series of presentations on ecumenical issues in the Church." The lecture series is the first to be hosted by the local chapter.

A reception will follow the lecture, which is open to the public. For more information, contact Fr. McInnes at 2-8192 or by e-mail at mcinnewi@bc.edu
