LSOE Symposium to Focus on Testing

Robert Linn, president-elect of the American Educational Research Association, will join three Boston College researchers in a discussion of educational testing at the second annual Lynch School of Education Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 4-6 p.m. in Robsham Theater.

Linn, a professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder and a member of the National Academy of Education, will present the keynote address for the symposium, "Educational Excellence and Equity: The Challenge of Testing."

Following Linn's remarks will be responses by three LSOE professors: Albert Beaton, who was responsible for bringing the widely-cited Third International Mathematics and Science Study to LSOE; Walter Haney, a frequent commentator and expert witness on high-stakes testing; and Janet Helms, director of the Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture and an expert in assessment.

LSOE Dean Mary Brabeck will offer a welcome for the event, and Massachusetts Federation of Teachers President Kathleen Kelley will introduce Linn.
