Members of the University community are invited to attend a reception on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Bapst Library's Lonergan Center to celebrate the publication of a new book by Norma Jean Calderwood University Professor of Islamic and Asian Art Jonathan Bloom.
Bloom, who shares the Calderwood Chair with his wife, Sheila Blair, will speak on and answer questions about the recently published Paper Before Print: The History and Impact of Paper in the Islamic World. He also will be available to autograph copies of the book, which will be available for sale at the reception.

The Boston College Concert Band will present a concert of works by Frank Ticheli, Leroy Anderson, Alfred Reed and other composers on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in Gasson 100.
Among the featured pieces will be "Amparito Roca," "Cajun Folk Songs," "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral," "Gavorkna Fanfare," "Russian Christmas Music" and "Sleigh Ride."
The event, which is sponsored by the Boston College Bands Program, is free and open to the public.
The University Affiliates Program, which helps prepare AHANA employees for potential leadership positions at Boston College, recently began its slate of activities for the 2001-02 academic year.
Affiliates will take part in 10 one-day seminars, 10 consultative and mentoring sessions with senior administrators and other learning opportunities. These are designed to deepen participants' knowledge of the University and strengthen their viability for promotion.
