On-line policies manual updated

University Policies and Procedures Director Ivy Dodge recently announced that a new policy, "University Name Changes," is now available on the on-line edition of the Boston College Policies and Procedures Manual at the following address: www.bc.edu/bc_org/evp/polpr/I/1-100-150.html.
Updated versions of the manual's table of contents [www.bc.edu/bc_org/evp/polpr/table.html] and index [www.bc.edu/bc_org/evp/polpr/index.html] also are available.

Calderwood Chair book launch Dec. 4

Members of the University community are invited to attend a reception on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Bapst Library's Lonergan Center to celebrate the publication of a new book by Norma Jean Calderwood University Professor of Islamic and Asian Art Jonathan Bloom.

Bloom, who shares the Calderwood Chair with his wife, Sheila Blair, will speak on and answer questions about the recently published Paper Before Print: The History and Impact of Paper in the Islamic World. He also will be available to autograph copies of the book, which will be available for sale at the reception.

BC Concert Band to perform on Dec. 9

The Boston College Concert Band will present a concert of works by Frank Ticheli, Leroy Anderson, Alfred Reed and other composers on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in Gasson 100.

Among the featured pieces will be "Amparito Roca," "Cajun Folk Songs," "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral," "Gavorkna Fanfare," "Russian Christmas Music" and "Sleigh Ride."

The event, which is sponsored by the Boston College Bands Program, is free and open to the public.

University Affiliates Program underway

The University Affiliates Program, which helps prepare AHANA employees for potential leadership positions at Boston College, recently began its slate of activities for the 2001-02 academic year.

Affiliates will take part in 10 one-day seminars, 10 consultative and mentoring sessions with senior administrators and other learning opportunities. These are designed to deepen participants' knowledge of the University and strengthen their viability for promotion.

This year's University Affiliates and their mentors are: Human Resources Senior Personnel Officer Sheyron Banks and Vice President for University Mission and Ministry Joseph Appleyard, SJ; Career Center Assistant Director Janet Costa-Bates and Director of Employee Development Bernard O'Kane; Technology Consultant Brenda-Ann Henry-Brown and Director of Employment Anita Ulloa; Learning Resources for Student Athletes Counselor Jonathan Gomes and Vice President for Student Affairs Cheryl Presley.

Also, Law School Assistant Director Fareza Khan and Student Services Assistant Dean Stephanie Autenrieth; Information Technology Consultant Monica Mendoza and Director of Employee Relations Richard Jefferson; Custodial Services Supervisor Jose Ortiz and Associate Vice President for Human Resources Robert Lewis; Bookstore Service Representative Brenda Osborne and Learning Resources for Athletes Director Ferna Phillips; Information Technology Consultant Sandi Wang and Associate Vice President for Student Information Services Rita Owens.
