Gamson Joins Eminent Academy

Prof. William Gamson (Sociology) has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, becoming the third Boston College faculty member to join the eminent learned society and research institution.

Gamson joins US Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), Academy Award-winning actress Angelica Huston, violinist Itzhak Perlman and Nobel Prize-winning chemist George Olah among the 177 fellows and 30 foreign honorary members who will be inducted on Oct. 5 at the academy's headquarters in Cambridge.

Previous BC representatives include Monan Professor of Theology Lisa Sowle Cahill and Drucker Professor of Management Sciences Alicia Munnell, director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, founded in 1780, brings together the nation's leading figures from higher education, government, business and the creative arts to exchange ideas and promote knowledge for public interest.
