Clay, who has served as chief staff counsel on the state's highest court since 1990, will replace R. Michael Cassidy, who is joining the faculty after five years in the position. As associate dean, Clay will be responsible for Law School finances, personnel administration, facilities planning, marketing and oversight of the admissions, career services, and law review publications offices.
In addition to his duties at the SJC, Clay has taught at Suffolk University Law School and Massachusetts School of Law. He also served as counsel for the Executive Office for Administration and Finance and on the Executive Staff for Governor Francis W. Sargent.
