Two Earn Goldwater Scholarships

Paul A. Taylor '04 and Tatyana V. Yakovleva '03 have been awarded Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships, which provide $7,500 per year and are considered the premier undergraduate award in engineering, mathematics and the sciences.

Taylor, of Elk Grove, Wis., a Presidential Scholar who majors in physics and classics, plans to pursue a doctorate in astrophysics, and to conduct research into the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics. He is doing research in theoretical physics with Rourke Professor of Physics Kevin Bedell.

Yakovleva, who was born in Novosibirsk, Russia, and now makes her home in Hamden, Conn., is majoring in biochemistry, and hopes to pursue a doctorate in that field as well as attend medical school. She currently is doing research with Prof. Anthony Annunziato (Biology).
