Carroll, who earned a master's degree from BC in 1947, joined the faculty in 1958 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 1964. She served as assistant chairwoman of the Mathematics Department from 1971 until 1977 and chairwoman from 1977 until 1980.
Among other achievements, Carroll was credited with helping design the department's computer science curriculum. She retired from BC in 1989.
Carroll is survived by a sister, Loretta B. Downey of Falmouth, and a brother, William F. Ring of Barnstable. She was buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery of West Roxbury.
