The campus event, which coincided with the three-month anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, DC, was organized by Theology Department faculty members Prof. Francis Clooney, SJ, and Asst. Prof. Qamar-ul Huda.
The service began just after sundown with the sharing of food to break the fast, followed by a salat, a traditional Muslim prayer, led by Imam Salih Yucel. Following readings from holy texts and a moment of silence, those in attendance lit candles of peace while reciting the Prayer of St. Francis, then ended the event with the hymn "Amazing Grace."
