Joseph M. Fallon, SJ, Dies

(1-31-97) -- Joseph M. Fallon, SJ, a long-time member of the Boston College Jesuit Community, died on Jan. 29 at Campion Center in Weston after a brief illness. He was 79.

For most of the time since 1976, Fr. Fallon served as a parish priest at St. Ignatius Church and as a pastoral minister and retreat director at St. Mary's Chapel. For several years, he also was director of summer programs at the Boston College Jesuits' Cohasset residence, Bellermine House.

A graduate of Boston College, Fr. Fallon entered the Society of Jesus in 1941. He earned a master's degree in sociology from St. Louis University and a doctorate in sociology from Fordham University. He taught sociology for 15 years at the College of the Holy Cross.

Fr. Fallon is survived by his brother, John W. of Braintree, and a sister, Julia Tobin of Arlington, Va.

The wake will be held at St. Mary's Hall today from 3-5 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Ignatius Church on Feb. 1 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Jesuit Cemetery at Campion Center.
