Many of Fr. Callahan's Jesuit colleagues and former students attended the service, as well as members and guests of the University community. Ignatius House Community Superior John P. Murray, SJ, was the principal celebrant, and University President William P. Leahy, SJ, served as a con-celebrant.
Fr. Callahan was appointed to the executive committee at the board of trustees' Sept. 15, 1995 meeting, after having served on the board as a trustee and trustee associate since 1983.
A native of Framingham, Fr. Callahan entered the Society of Jesus in 1959 and was ordained 10 years later. He earned degrees in philosophy and theology at Boston College, and also held degrees from Fairfield University and the Weston School of Theology.
Prior to his appointment at Nativity Prep in 1995, Fr. Callahan had been president of Loyola College in Wilmette, Ill. for six years. From 1973 to 1987, he was president of Boston College High School, where he had taught French from 1964-66.
He leaves his mother, Marie (Carroll) of Framingham; and his sisters, M. Joan Gilbert of Watertown, C. Jane of Mystic, Conn., Martha Flinter of Framingham, Moira Minnucci of Shrewsbury and Darragh Callahan-Johnson of Vicenza, Italy.
Fr. Callahan was buried in the Campion Center Jesuit Cemetery in Weston.
