Charles Toomey, SJ, Former Intown College Dean and Philosophy Faculty Member, Dies

(12-2-99) - A funeral Mass was celebrated today for Charles B. Toomey, SJ, former dean of the old Intown College and a long-time member of the Philosophy faculty. Fr. Toomey, 88, died on Monday at the Campion Center in Weston after a brief illness.

Fr. Toomey became assistant dean of the Intown College -- now the College of Advancing Studies -- in 1948 and was named dean in 1954. Six years later, he joined the Philosophy Department, where he taught until his retirement from teaching in 1987.

He is survived by a nephew and two nieces.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in St. Mary's Chapel today. Burial was at Campion Center.
