(5-3-99) -- The Gasson Tower bells will toll at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, in memory of the 15 who died recently in the Littleton, Colo. high school shootings.
Fifteen peals, one for each of the dead, will be sounded at the hour the shooting started -- 11:30 a.m. Colorado time -- exactly two weeks before at Columbine High School.
The ringing of the bells will be followed by a rendition of the hymn "Amazing Grace" by a bagpiper stationed at O'Neill Plaza or a vantage near the Dustbowl.
The campus community is being invited to pause at the sound of the bells and offer prayers or thoughts for the Littleton victims and their loved ones.
"We want people to stop for two minutes and pray and remember the dead," said Chaplain Donald MacMillan, SJ, who organized the commemoration together with Chaplain Melissa Kelley.
At least 10 current BC students are from Littleton, Colo., according to Fr. MacMillan.
