(7-2-99) -- Vice President for Human Resources Leo Sullivan has announced the appointment of Massachusetts Institute of Technology administrator Robert J. Lewis as associate vice president for Human Resources, effective Aug. 16.
Lewis has served as director of personnel for employee relations at MIT since 1994. His responsibilities have included development of recruitment strategies, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, overseeing classification and compensation systems and other human resources-related processes.
"Bob brings to this position very comprehensive experience in all areas of human resource management," said Sullivan. "We look forward to utilizing his talents, abilities and insights as we continue our efforts in helping Boston College realize its full potential as an efficient and productive institution."
Lewis first came to MIT in 1989 as manager of labor relations. From 1993-94, he was vice president of claims management at Sedwick James of New England Inc. in Boston before returning to MIT. Lewis also was an administrator at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority from 1977-89, serving as labor relations attorney, manager of labor relations and then director of human resources.
Lewis received a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Massachusetts, and earned a law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
