Full Power Restored to Main Campus

(9-9-99) - Full power was restored to the Main Campus early this morning, when Boston Edison crews repaired a major cable that supplies the campus with electricity.

The restoration came nearly 24 hours after that cable and another line failed. A third line supplied the campus with about half its normal power yesterday and conservation measures were employed in a successful effort to avoid power interruptions.

Buildings and Grounds Director Thomas Devine said the normal operations of the University were not affected, except for some air conditioning units in some buildings.

Full power was restored at 1 a.m. today, Devine said, when Boston Edison completed work on one of the failed cables. The other is being repaired today, he added. Either is capable of fully meeting the campus' electrical needs, Devine said.
