Gerry Adams Visit Cancelled

(11-12-99) --Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams, a key participant in the ongoing Northern Ireland peace process, announced yesterday he has had to cancel his Nov. 16 appearance at Boston College.

Adams was scheduled to give a lecture and press conference, his only planned media appearance during his US trip, on Tuesday evening at BC. But recent developments in negotiations to implement the Good Friday peace accord have forced him to postpone his visit, he said.

"Boston College looked forward to hosting Gerry Adams as part of our efforts to invite Irish leaders to share their perspectives on the Northern Irish political situation," said Director of Public Affairs Jack Dunn. "However, we fully understand his decision, and we wish him, David Trimble, John Hume and all others involved in the negotiations the very best."
