Traffic on Lower Campus Re-Routed During Paving Project

Traffic in and out of the Main Campus is being re-routed until Friday while paving work is done on the Lower Campus.

This coming Monday, the Commonwealth Avenue parking garage is expected to be closed while directional arrows on its concourses are repainted.

The Lower Campus parking area is receiving a bit of a summer facelift, with new blacktop being laid and center lines and parking spaces being repainted.

Motorists were blocked Wednesday from entering the campus through the gate by St. Ignatius Church, and were required to take a detour through the main gate near St. Mary's Hall to get into to the Commonwealth Avenue parking garage.

Traffic access to the ground level of the Commonwealth Avenue garage from the St. Ignatius gate is expected to be restored Friday morning.

The grounds from the RecPlex to Edmond's Hall also will be closed to traffic until Friday to allow newly painted parking lines to dry. Access to the Beacon Street garage will be available from the stadium gate on Beacon Street.

Boston College Police Capt. Walter Durrane said workers had hoped to have the roadway by the St. Ignatius gate open by Thursday morning, but rain Wednesday prevented painters from working.

The St. Ignatius parking lot is not affected by the work and has remained open throughout.
