(9-30-98) -- University offices will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 and late afternoon classes will be postponed until the end of the semester so the campus can be prepared for a nationally televised football game.
Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculties David R. Burgess noted that the Big East Conference, of which Boston College is a member, has a television contract with ESPN that requires each member football team to play an occasional Thursday night game. Boston College will play Virginia Tech at 8 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
"In order to accommodate the conflicting space needs that arise from this obligation, all classes beginning 4 p.m. or after on Thursday, Oct. 8 will be rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 10," the second study day, Burgess said in a memo distributed to faculty.
Faculty who need to be on campus after 4 p.m. must obtain a parking pass using the same procedure employed for Saturday football games. Burgess said faculty members without such permits must remove their cars from campus by 4:30 p.m.
Similarly, the need for parking has prompted the Human Resources Office to announce the early closing of administrative offices. Staff members are requested to remove their cars from campus by 3 p.m.
