BC graduate programs perform well in US News study

(4-5-02) - The Carroll School of Management places in the top 40 and its part-time
MBA program in the top 20 in annual graduate-school rankings released by US News & World Report, while the Law School and the Lynch School of Education continue to rank among the top two-dozen schools in their fields.

The Carroll School moved up two places to 39th among graduate business schools and its part-time MBA program improved two places to 17th in the ratings compiled in US News' guidebook, "Best Graduate Schools," released April 8.

Carroll School Associate Dean Robert Taggart said the ratings affirm the school's growing stature. "It's great to see this recognition of all the efforts and accomplishments of our students, our faculty and staff and our loyal alumni," he said.

The Law School holds steady at 22nd, while the Lynch School places 21st among graduate schools of education, moving up one place in the rankings, and standing as the only Catholic institution in the top 40.

"This continued rise in the rankings reflects the growing recognition of the Lynch School of Education as a school of excellence," said Lynch School Dean Mary Brabeck. "It is a tribute to the faculty and students who have earned this distinction."

US News annually calculates new school rankings in five areas of post-baccalaureate study: business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The rankings are based on "expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that describe the strength of a school's faculty, its research, and the performance of students both as they enter and leave," according to the magazine. The ratings are posted online at the magazine's web site [www.usnews.com].
