University issues update on March 24 Upper Campus fire

(3-29-2000)--Six freshmen and two Boston College police officers have all been released from the hospital after being treated for injuries suffered in an early-morning fire at the Medeiros Townhouses on Upper Campus March 24. Eighteen students remain displaced from their dorm rooms in the wake of the fire and are being housed elsewhere on campus.

Boston College is working with the state fire marshal's office and the manufacturer of safety screens on campus residence-hall windows to retrofit the screens to insure swift access in the event of similar emergency in the future. A campus ban is also being considered on the make of electrical plug strip that fire officials have cited as the cause of Friday's fire.

More information will be available in the March 30 Boston College Chronicle, and through further updates on InfoEagle.
