Faculty Technology Day to feature new library system

(5-15-2000)An overview of Boston College Libraries' new World Wide Web-based catalogue system and a presentation on publishing electronic text books will be among the highlights of this year's Faculty Technology Day, which will be held Wednesday, May 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event will begin in Fulton 511 with opening presentations by University Librarian Jerome Yavarkovsky, Assoc. Prof. Alec Peck (LSOE), Assoc. Prof. Clare O'Connor (Biology), and Educational Technology Specialist/Legal Reference Librarian John Nann from the Law Library.

At 10:30 a.m., participants can attend workshops and demonstrations, including a session on BC Libraries' new Web-based Aleph 500 library catalogue system. An overview of online library resources will also be offered, and there will be a discussion on accessing older, more historical online material. Other classes will cover Web page authoring and using PowerPoint for creating presentation graphics.

At 12:30 p.m. participants will gather in Gasson 100 for lunch and Prof. Alfred C. Yen (Law) will offer a keynote presentation on publishing an electronic text book.
