SWRI Director Schervish named to "Power and Influence Top 50" list

(8-11-2000) Prof. Paul Schervish (Sociology), director of the Boston College Social Welfare Research Institute, has been named to the third annual "Power and Influence Top 50," a list compiled by the national publication NonProfit Times to acknowledge the major movers and shakers in the non-profit sector.

Cited by the publication as "a trailblazer in the areas of philanthropy study and the sociology of wealth," Schervish is in the company of such figures as Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates and America's Promise Chairman Colin Powell. Others on the NonProfit Times list include United Way of America President Betty S. Beene, Ford Foundation President Susan V. Berresford, Points of Light Foundation President and CEO Robert K. Goodwin, Catholic Charities USA President Rev. Fred Kammer and Millard Fuller, founder and president of Habitat For Humanity.
