European Parliament member to speak Feb. 8

(2-4-2000) -- The Irish Institute will present a talk by Rosemary Scallon, a member of the European Parliament, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. in Burns Library. She will address "The European Union and Regional Development."

Scallon is better known as the popular entertainer "Dana," who won the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest and later moved to the US, where she hosted a show on a Christian cable TV network. She returned to Ireland as a candidate in the 1997 Irish presidential election, and last year was elected to the European Parliament as the Connacht-Ulster representative.

Scallon's appearance at Boston College is part of the Austin F. O'Connor Lecture Series. For more information, call the Irish Institute at ext.2-4503.
