Campus Earth Day activities take place April 25-26

(4-24-2000)Boston College will observe Earth Day 2000 on April 25 and 26 with several events and activities that focus on environmental issues and trends, culminating in a panel discussion on global climate change.

The celebration will begin on Tuesday, April 25, from 1-4 p.m. on the Campus Green, with a series of discussions and displays on global climate change, recycling, environmental racism, and technology transfers. Students will have the opportunity to take an environmental health and safety tour led by members of the University's Health and Safety Department.

Earth Day activities will resume on Wednesday, April 26, in the Lower Campus Dining Hall Heights Room. From 4-5:30 p.m., students will participate in a discussion on environmental careers with representatives from a wide range of professions, including environmental careers recruiting, finance, law, community activism, government and business.

The final event will be a panel discussion, "Global Climate Change, Can You Believe the Hype?," beginning at 7 p.m. Asst. Prof. Kevin Harrison (Geology and Geophysics) will be the moderator, and panelists will be climate change experts Andrew Solow, director of the Woods Hole Marine Policy Center, and William Moomaw, a professor at the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. This panel discussion is open to the greater Boston community.

The Earth Day Celebration is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Health and Safety Department, Environmental Action Committee, Career Center and the Undergraduate Government of Boston College.
