Eating disorders awareness campaign to begin Feb. 7

(1-31-2000) -- Boston College will sponsor a public art campaign and accompanying series of events from Feb. 7-25 to raise awareness about eating disorders. The campaign, using the works of California artists Kathryn Sylva and Robin Lasser, is intended to convey both the personal experience and cultural pervasiveness of eating disorders.

During the campaign , banners will be displayed and information on eating disorders will be available at various campus locations , as well as on BC Cable TV channel 44 and a forthcoming World Wide Web site . Sylva and Lasser also will be on hand for a panel discussion, "Obsessed with Perfection," on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Devlin 008 and a presentation of their work on Feb. 17 at noon in Gasson 100 .

Other programs during the campaign will include a lecture on "The Cult of Thinness" by Prof. Sharlene Hesse-Biber (Sociology) on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in McGuinn 121 , and a play on Feb. 24 titled "Reflections" , performed by the Massachusetts Eating Disorders Association at 7 p.m. in Cushing 001.
