Comm. Ave. public works project may affect campus traffic, water

(7-26-2000) The City of Newton has started replacement work on a water line beneath the section of Commonwealth Avenue that borders the Boston College Main Campus. Officials said the project, which began yesterday and is expected to last one month, could cause traffic problems and minor disruptions in water service to some University facilities.

The project is part of an ongoing effort by the city to replace its aging water pipes. A similar project was completed last summer on College Road. The current operation will affect the area of Commonwealth Avenue that stretches east from the intersection of College Road to the Newton-Brighton border.

University officials are awaiting scheduling information from the city to prepare buildings for disruptions in water service and to help commuters anticipate potential traffic problems.
