Benefit for B&G carpenter Chuck Collins Aug. 10

(8-8-2000)Friends of Boston College employee Chuck Collins, who is near death in his struggle with Lou Gehrigıs Disease, will host a benefit for the Collins family at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet Street in Dorchester, this Thursday, Aug. 10, from 7 p.m ­ midnight.

Collins, 42, of Quincy, a carpenter in BCıs Buildings and Grounds Department, was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 1997. His condition has steadily deteriorated to the point where he is unable to walk, talk or eat. Doctors have told family members that he will not survive the diseaseıs creeping paralysis much longer.

To assist his wife, Meg, and their two children Katie, 12, and Anna, 10, friends are hosting the benefit, which will feature live entertainment, raffle prizes, and an auction.
