Affiliates Program seeks candidates

(9-28-2000) The University Affiliates Program, which helps prepare AHANA employees for potential leadership positions at Boston College, is accepting applications for its second year until Friday, Oct. 13.

Organizers say the Affiliates Program is designed to deepen participants' knowledge of the University and strengthen their viability for promotion. Nine employees representing such offices and departments as O'Neill Library, Human Resources and Information Technology were accepted last year as the first University Affiliates.

Mentored by a team of senior University administrators, program participants learn about the methods used to address strategic issues in higher education. The internship-type experience is complemented by a professional development program offering seminars, lectures, case studies, site visits and discussions.

The program has been designed by the offices of Affirmative Action and AHANA Student Programs with the Irish Institute, which along with Human Resources is providing administrative oversight and organization.

Applicants must submit a one-page resume, a letter of application including a statement of purpose and career objectives, and a recommendation from the vice president of their department. This year's participants will be announced on Oct. 20 and will begin their orientation on Nov. 1. The program will end next June.
