University issues e-mail advisory

(2-16-2000) -- In recent weeks, a number of colleges and universities nationwide have received offensive e-mails from anonymous individuals. Around 1 a.m. today, approximately 40 members of the Boston College community received a racist, political diatribe via e-mail from an anonymous Hotmail account. The e-mail was sent to a sampling of undergraduate, graduate and professional students and staff.

The Boston College community strongly condemns this action which is in conflict with our shared values of respect for all people. The University is aggressively investigating this matter and would welcome any assistance. If anyone has any information please contact Associate Dean for Student Development Dr. Paul Chebator at 552-3470, or Lt. Eugene Neault of the Boston College Police Department's Detective Bureau at 552-4743.
