BC Alums Volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul Center

On Wednesday, November 27, 1997, the St. Vincent De Paul Community Center hosted a special Thanksgiving dinner at the Joan Kroc Center in downtown San Diego. Members of the homeless community received a traditional tasty Thanksgiving dinner of roast turkey, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, vegtables, rolls, salad, and cookies. Father Joe Carroll of the Center blessed the dinner at noon. By two o'clock that afternoon, volunteers served over 1100 dinners. All food and drink was donated by community members and groups from all over San Diego county.

The volunteers began arriving at 9:00 am. They carved roasted turkeys, prepared cranberry sauce, set tables, served dinners, cleared tables and controlled the dinner traffic. Attending members of the San Diego BC alumni chapter included Evelyn Hom, Rebecca Scease, Jane and Jim O'Hara, and Jim Bliss and his family. We hope to continue assisting the San Diego community and welcome any suggestions for future events. Please contact the BC Hotline.
