St. Ignatius is a learning community.
Our educational opportunities extend across the life span. Please take advantage of one of our many programs to bring your faith to new levels of understanding, expression, service, and commitment. The Faith Formation Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of every month, September through May. The Commission advises the Director of Faith Formation about the various adult, family, and child-centered catechetical efforts of the parish. Participants also help decide what topics will be offered in adult education programs. Up to date information can be found in the weekly bulletin.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding religious education, please contact Amy Chapman, Director of Faith Formation, at 617-552-6103 or via email at chapmaab@bc.edu.

St. Ignatius Faith Formation Program Options
Weekly Faith Formation Classes
Pre-school - grade 10 students meet on Sunday mornings.
Arts Based Program
This class meets twice monthly on Sunday from 11 AM to 12:30 PM and is open for all children up to fifth grade. Parent involvement is essential to this program.
Pre-School Program
In response to our community needs and the developmental needs of this age group, we have revised the preschool program.
The new preschool Faith Formation will meet one or two times a month. Children age three & four are invited with their parent to share in exploring and experiencing their Christian Faith. The class will meet from 10-11 in the Yellow Room. Parents will be a part of the class for half the time then meet together for the other half. Home based activities will be provided for the weeks that the class doesn't meet. We will also try to provide a playgroup opportunity during the 10 o'clock Mass on the off Sundays for children who might need it as an alternate to going to Mass.
Children & parents must be registered for the class.
The spring's classes will be held on:
January 25, February 8, March 1, March 15, March 29, April 26, May 3.
Sacramental Preparation
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist
Preparation is typically completed in the second grade, but can be completed in later grades depending on individual needs. Students celebrate their First Reconciliation prior to First Eucharist in May. Students must register for these sacraments when registering for Faith Formation in the fall.
Confirmation
The sacrament of confirmation is conferred upon students after proper preparation, usually in the spring of the tenth grade. Our confirmation program begins in the ninth grade and includes classroom instruction on basic Catholic theology and morality, service projects, and retreats. Preparation continues in the tenth grade, where the classroom focus is about finding and taking responsibility for one's role in the Catholic, Christian community. Students who attend Catholic schools are encouraged to attend both years of preparation to engage with same-age peers in our church community, but they are only required to attend the second year of preparation.
