Mission/Purpose
The primary mission of the Newton Resource Center is to
serve as a reading room/study area for the undergraduates who live
on the Newton Campus, providing a comfortable environment, reserve
services, and computers for on-site work as well as access to the
Libraries online resources and the Internet. As such, the collection
and the small computing facility housed there are intended to complement
rather than replace the resources of the O'Neill Library or the
Student Learning & Support Center computing facility also located
in the O'Neill Library building.
User
Profile
Undergraduates, primarily first-year students, living on
the Newton Campus, use the Center.
Facilities
The Center has seating available for 60 users and is equipped
with PC's and Macintosh computers for word processing and Internet
access. A photocopier, fax machine, and a selection of 18 current
newspapers and journals are available for students to use.
Services
In addition to providing online access to the Libraries resources
and current reading materials, the Center maintains a small print
reference collection designed to support first year student's academic
needs. Also provided is a "Reserve by Request" service whereby individual
students can request that items already on Reserve at the O'Neill
Library also be placed on Reserve at the Center. In addition, copies
of materials on Reserve at the O'Neill Library are routinely faxed
to the Center when requested by a student.
Resources
The Newton Resource Center houses the majority of the O'Neill Library's
circulating books and periodicals in the A sections and the Z sections
of the collection. Requests for the materials to be delivered to
O'Neill Library may be made on-line or at any circulation desk.
