Gargan
Hall Collection / Bapst Library
Collection
Overview
While
not specifically linked to curricular requirements, the Gargan Hall
collection encompasses the spectrum of disciplines which comprise
the Boston College curriculum. The collection reflects the
principles of Jesuit education and strengthens the college's commitment
to providing students with a broad liberal education. Emphasis
is placed on the acquisition of materials which invite students
to browse and challenge them to seek more scholarly works available
in other Boston College Libraries collections. The collection
supports independent study and writing, the exploration of current
ideas and issues, and the growth of curiosity, skills, and habits
essential to the development of reading as a source of lifelong
learning and recreation.
Unlike
the research and scholarly collections of Boston College Libraries,
the Gargan Hall collection seeks primarily to provide books for the
Boston College community which are recreational or of current general
interest. The composition and organization of the collection
are evaluated regularly to make sure it is supporting current activities
and interests.
