Science Databases: get a quick introduction to a few excellent science databases, such as Access, McGraw-Hill’s online encyclopedia of Science and Technology, Science Direct (access to journal articles citations and full-text), and Ideal (Full text access to over 170 Academic Press titles. Tables of contents and article abstracts from 229 Academic Press, Churchill Livingstone, and W. B. Saunders  journals in more than 30 subject disciplines)

This breakout session will cover issues and strategies involved in locating and using images for lectures and publication using the world wide web. What search engines and strategies work best for locating images and other multi-media files? Once they are found, how can they be used and how can permission be obtained? What are the "best" sites for images in various disciplines?

Social Science Databases on the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) 
Internet Interface: Learn how to use the many value-added features on this exciting new research tool available to you on the Boston College Libraries Online Database menu. The Social Science Collection includes ERIC, Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts, Political Science and Government Abstracts, PsycINFO, Social Services Abstracts, and Sociological Abstracts.
Learn to build an advanced search strategy, save your search  histories, and set up automatic search updates to send the latest  research on your areas of interest to your own email address.  Also see how you can use CSA to locate relevant WWW sites.

netLibrary: we will offer a brief introduction to netLibrary,  an electronic book collection of more than 4,500 copyrighted new titles and approximately 4,000 free titles. The search interface allows searching by author, title, full-text, keyword, subject, and publisher. PC users can download an  eBook Reader which allows searching, annotating, copying, and pasting while offline.

This session will introduce you to EndNote, the researcher's favorite bibliographic software. We will search online bibliographic databases, including BC's Quest, and countless number of databases, organize references,  and create bibliographies instantly and automatically. 
You will no longer have to spend hours typing references, or using index cards to organize your references.  You will leave this session armed with various tools to organize your bibliographies and handle many of your research protocols in the most time efficient manner.
