Computing Services
The Student Learning and Support Center, located in O'Neill 250, is Boston College’s major computer laboratory on campus. The facility includes a Help Desk and Instructional Lab as well as 29 Macintosh’s, 118 PC's, 8 networked printers, 5 color scanners, 3 e-mail stations, 6 laptop docking stations, floppy disk vending machines and VMS/Alpha access for use by the Boston College community. Within the facility, users have access to a wide variety of software applications and high speed access to the Internet. Valid BC IC required.
Religious Services
Liturgy is offered on class days in St. Mary’s Chapel at noon and in the Church of St. Ignatius at 12:15, 4 and 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 9:30, 11 a.m., 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.
The Campus Ministry Office is located in McElroy 215. A complete listing of local clergy and detailed information on religious services of many faiths is available there.
Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr. Library
The Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr. library contains over a million volumes and nearly 17,000 serial subscriptions. Summer students are encouraged to get to know the library resources quickly. The Guide to the Boston College Libraries is available at the library reference desk. All registered summer students are granted full library privileges with their identification card.
Dining Facilities
Boston College’s meal plan may be purchased with a minimum deposit of $100; any unused balance is fully refundable. Apply via www.bc.edu/agora. For additional details telephone (617) 552-3500.
Dining facilities are provided in McElroy Commons, Mon-Fri: 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; Lower Campus Dining Facility, 60 Campanella Way: 7:30-10:30 a.m.; Lunch, 11-3 p.m.; Dinner 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Recreation Facilities
The William J. Flynn Recreation Complex is the focal point for athletic activities and recreation. The recreation complex contains: indoor courts for tennis, racquetball and squash; a swimming pool and diving well; areas for basketball, exercise and volleyball; track, nautilus, free weights and universal weight-training machines, life cycles, stairmasters, rowing machines and saunas. Outside, there are tennis courts, a sunbathing area and a refreshment stand. Instruction is offered in aerobics, fencing, swimming, tennis and golf and fitness training. Enjoying these facilities with those who share similar academic interests adds another dimension to summer study.
An official Boston College picture ID card is required to use the Rec Plex. Picture ID cards are issued by the Office of Student Services, Lyons 101; the fee is $15. Summer students may purchase a membership for unlimited complex use as follows: May 9 to June 22, $25; June 23 to August 2, $25; May 9 to August 2, $50. If membership is not purchased, daily access to the complex is available with the Boston College picture ID card and paying a $5 fee. Parking
A patrolled and well-lighted parking area is available to students on lower campus. Students obtain parking permits for $5 at the service center in Lyons Hall. Permits for the 2002-2003 Spring term remain valid through the summer.
Health Services
The University Health Service Clinic is located in Cushing Hall, Room 119. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic provides emergency treatment of minor injuries or illness with payment of the summer health fee and willingly acts as liaison with community doctors for any help necessary which the clinic cannot provide. Campus Store
The bookstore is the place for textbooks, bestsellers, study aids, stationery, college supplies, gifts, B.C. clothing and small items such as newspapers and snacks. The bookstore is located on the first floor of McElroy Commons and it may be reached by telephoning 617-552-3520 or 1-800-978-0978. It is open Monday through Thursday 9 to 6:30 p.m.; Friday 9 to 3 and Saturday 9 to 5.
