Jorge Balán
World Class and Research Universities in Asia and Latin America
Dr. Jorge Balán was a senior program officer at the Ford Foundation from 1998 until 2007, responsible for the higher education portfolio there. He currently serves as a senior researcher at the Center for the Study of State and Society (CEDES) in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is a visiting scholar at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Dr. Balán is co-editor of a 2007 book entitled World Class Worldwide: Transforming Research Universities in Asia and Latin America (Johns Hopkins University Press).
Jane Knight
IAU Global Survey Report on Internationalization of Higher Education
Dr. Jane Knight is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, affiliated with the Comparative, International and Development Education Centre, which is housed within the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She has written extensively on the subject of internationalization within higher education, particularly in terms of concepts and strategies. Jane Knight has played a leadership role with four international teams conducting regional studies on the internationalization of higher education--in Europe and North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Africa. Currently, Dr. Knight is a 2007-2008 Fulbright New Century Scholar, focusing her research efforts on the effects of cross-border education delivery on higher education access.

Cost, Access, and Equity in Higher Education: American and International Perspectives
On November 30, 2007, Bridget Terry Long of Harvard University and D. Bruce Johnstone of SUNY Buffalo delivered keynote addresses at Boston College for the 2007 Monan Symposium, which focused on issues of higher education cost, access, and equity around the world. This event was co-sponsored by the Fulbright New Century Scholars (NCS) Program, and also featured presentations 2007-2008 NCS participants Claire Callendar of the University of London, Jane Knight of the University of Toronto, and Anthony Welch of the University of Sydney.
