Center Book Series News: Book Series Linked to Center Focuses on Higher Education


Garland Studies in Higher Education, a book series cosponsored by the Center for International Higher Education and the Program in Higher Education at Boston College, and Garland Publishing, Inc., publishes a range of volumes on higher education. Many of the books in the series have an international dimension. The series is one of the most active sources of information and analysis on higher education anywhere. In the past two years, two volumes have been issued. The series is edited by Philip G. Altbach. The series is dedicated to strengthening the research base in higher education, and to making top-quality analysis of higher education issues available. One recent book will be of special interest to many readers of this publication. Charles J. Beirne, S.J. has just published Jesuit Education and Social Change in El Salvador. This book provides a thorough analysis of the development of the innovative Universidad Centroamericana in El Salvador, against the backdrop of the killing of Jesuit priests there several years ago. The book deals with the role of the university in social change.
