News of the Center and the Higher Education Program at BC
The Center's visiting scholar program has been active. In the Spring 1995 semester Dr. Salameh Tanash, assistant professor of education at the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, studied educational administration and higher education at the Center. His visit was sponsored by AMIDEAST and the Government of Jordan. In the Spring 1996 term, Dr. Kassie Freeman, assistant professor of higher education at Vanderbilt University, will join the Center for a period of study on international higher education. Dr. Freeman has worked in Eastern Europe, and has been a Spencer Foundation fellow. Dr. Koidin of the Smolensk Pedagogical Institute in Russia will also be a fellow of the Center in the spring semester. His interests are in the field of higher education administration.
The Association for the Study of Higher Education has announced that the editorship of the Review of Higher Education has been awarded to Philip G. Altbach, and the journal's editorial office will move to Boston College in 1996 for an initial five year period. Karen Arnold and Ted I. K. Youn, both faculty in the Program in Higher Education, will be associate editors. At present, the journal is edited at the University of Michigan. RHE is one of the major journals in the field of higher education. Its location at Boston College will lend visibility to BC's higher education efforts.
The Administrative Fellows Initiative in Higher Education has been launched. Under the leadership of Professor Ted Youn, the program provides funding for graduate students in higher education at Boston College through supervised work experiences in key administrative offices. Fellows also participate in a seminar that focuses on their work assignments as well as on broader issues in higher education.
