News of the Center

Behind the scenes, the Center's widely used Website is getting a makeover. Using the site will soon be easier, more intuitive, and more interactive. Center research associate Liz Reisberg is leading this activity along with visiting scholar Gilton E. J. Lee and with the assistance of the Boston College information technology department.

Several Center staff and students presented papers at the annual conference of the Comparative and International Education Society in New York in March. A panel consisting of Philip Altbach, research associates Liz Reisberg and Laura Rumbley, research assistant Iván Pacheco, and Center alumna Alma Maldonado of the University of Arizona focused on higher education themes.

Center director Philip Altbach recently gave a keynote at a regional conference on higher education in the Arab region in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He also spoke at the seminar on international higher education, organized by the European Association for International education in Berlin, and will speak at the Global University Network for innovation's international conference in Barcelona, Spain. He will chair an international advisory committee for the new Graduate School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.

World Class Worldwide: Transforming Research Universities in Asia and Latin America, coedited by Philip Altbach and Jorge Balán, has recently been published in Korean and in a Chinese-language edition by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press. Work on a Japanese translation is also proceeding.
