Greetings and welcome to the International Network for Higher Education in Africa (INHEA). Established in 2003, the Network is intended for use by scholars, experts, practitioners, policy makers, funders, students, and others engaged in research and development related to higher education in Africa. As interest in higher education in Africa grows and as research and related publishing gathers momentum, this information resource has an important role to play in helping to organize and make sense of emerging developments.

A host of institutions and organizations are engaged in activities that affect higher education development in Africa. Activities include research and advocacy; conferences and workshops; cooperative relationships with African institutions; and other efforts to gauge the state of higher education institutions in Africa. However, most organizations focusing on Africa operate independently and are consumed by routines that constrain them from exchanging information with others. The goal of this forum, therefore, is to engage all stakeholders in African higher education through a central point of reference. This resource is significantly enriched by the feedback and information we receive directly from Network users. To ensure the ongoing relevance and timeliness of our postings, we strongly encourage you to send us your comments and input so that we may further develop and enhance this site.

Establishment of the International Network for Higher Education in Africa would never have been possible without the support of the Ford Foundation and its staff. We also extend deepest thanks to Prof. Philip G. Altbach, director of the Boston College Center for International Higher Education, for providing a home for the Network and for his sustained support for higher education research and publishing in Africa. We hope that this Network, with your help and support, will continue to effectively and appropriately serve scholarship related to higher education in Africa.
