Introduction
The Comoros islands are located in the Mozambique Channel between northern Mozambique and Madagascar. The total population is estimated at 706,300 according to the 1999 census.

Enrollment
Postsecondary education in Comoros is public and limited to a number of programs in teacher training, agriculture, health sciences a business school, and with an overall capacity of 200 students. Enrollment ratios at the primary, secondary, and postsecondary levels are estimated at 64%, 11% and 2%, respectively.

Postsecondary education is offered at the Official School (l’Ecole Officielle) based on the French education model. Up until the late 1980s, education was entirely public and only recently did private schools emerge.
